Ecodesign Directive: Extension of scope

The Ecodesign Directive (EU Directive 2009/125/EC) is to be applied not only to energy-using products, that means electrical and electronic equipment like TVs, PCs or refrigerators, but also to all products with energy consumption relevance, like doors, windows or shower heads.

Proposal of the commission to extend the scope of the Directive

The Environmental Committee of the European Parliament has agreed upon a corresponding proposal of the Commission on February 17, 2009. On April 1, 2009 the plenum of the European Parliament will definitely decide on that subject. The approach to extend the scope of the Directive to any existing product did not find an approval.
